Our Amazing Clients

Applications

Screen

In the screen industry, for example, the top layer of a smartphone is often a functional film. This could include tempered, frosted, privacy, or anti-blue light films. It’s essential for these films to undergo thorough testing for haze and transmittance before they are shipped. Likewise, manufacturers of screen cover plates, light guide plates, diffusion plates, and optical adhesives also place a high emphasis on testing these parameters.

Film

According to current data, haze meters find their widest application in the film industry. For measurement purposes, films are usually classified into two main types: soft and hard films. The vertical measurement design is particularly convenient for hard film assessments – you just place the sample on it and measure with a single click. For soft films, we also offer film fixtures to facilitate the measurement process.

Glass

For products such as clear and bright outdoor display screen glass, smartphone screens, and high-end display window glass, it’s crucial to have very low haze and high transmittance. In contrast, glass items like those used in bathrooms and for lamp shades require a higher level of haze while also maintaining high transmittance. Thus, in the quality control process for glass manufacturing, the role of haze meters is extremely important.

Plastic & Rubber

Haze meters have a broad range of applications in the plastics and rubber industries. For instance, they are used in the packaging of various transparent boxes in the plastics sector. Generally, any plastic or rubber product that needs to meet specific optical criteria, such as high transparency, low haze, or unique light scattering properties, will likely require the use of a haze meter for quality control and testing.

Frequently Asked Questions.

The light that hits the sample is called the incident light (T1), while the total light that passes through the sample is termed the transmitted light (Tt). The scattered light that emerges at an angle greater than 2.5° after passing through the sample is known as scattered light (specifically Td). Haze is calculated as the ratio of this scattered light (Td) to the transmitted light (Tt), and transmittance is determined by the ratio of the transmitted light (Tt) to the incident light (T1). This explains the measurement principles of haze and transmittance.

The main operational difference between these two standards when measuring transmittance parameters is that under the ASTM standard, the compensation port is closed when measuring both haze and transmittance. In contrast, under the ISO standard, the compensation port is open when measuring transmittance.
